Who is eligible?

In order to meet the program requirements for China, you need to:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old
  • Have no criminal background
  • Have baby-sitting or child care experience

What is the job about ?

Duties and Responsibilities of an Au Pair:

  • Care for the children and light housework such as cleaning up an activity after the child/children, making meals for the children, cleaning their room etc
  • Perform 30 hours of work per week
  • Teach and play with the children

Family's Responsibilities:

  • Provide an appropriate private room and meals for the Au Pair
  • Make available the Au Pair's agreed free time and days off
  • Pay the Au Pair's agreed pocket money
  • Treat the Au Pair as an "extended family" member, not as an employee

Duration of assignment:

  • Short stay: 6 months
  • Longer stay: 12 months

Time off:

The Au Pair has usually 1-2 days off per week
The Au Pair has 1-month vacation and our partner agency in China will help arrange it
The trip will be organized with Chinese and other Au Pairs from Germany, UK, and Netherlands

Pocket Money:

It is around RMB600-800 per month (it is the level of a clerk's salary in China; the society safe salary in China is RMB300 per month (USD$1=RMB8.2)
The Au Pair has free board, accommodation, and insurance

Commitment deposit:

There is a commitment deposit of CAD350 (it includes the processing and screening fees; CAD150 refundable)

Au Pair's Expenses:

The Au Pair is responsible for her/his own toiletries and entertainment

How to apply ?

The Application Process:

  • Read the terms and conditions of the program
  • Fill out the Application Form
  • Attach a passport copy and 4 passport size photos
  • Attach a copy of own Resume
  • Write a "Dear Family" letter
  • Attach Childcare and Character references
  • Attach a medical report from a doctor
  • Contact us by mail, phone or e-mail to schedule an appointment for an interview

What Happens Next

After the interview the application is reviewed in our office and then sent to our partner agency in China
The host family contacts the applicant and in case both sides decide that they can work together an agreement is signed
The applicant should be prepared to attend Chinese language courses at the Zhejiang University
The Au Pair might need to pay a fee at the Chinese embassy; the fee is payable directly to the embassy
The Au Pair will make own travel arrangements and will pay all the travel expenses to and from Canada
The earlier the Au Pair applies the better chances are of placement

Orientation:

One of our representatives will conduct a thorough orientation with the Au Pair
The partner agency in China will take care of the Au Pair for the duration of her/his stay there

Visa:

The Au Pair needs to apply for visa at the Chinese Embassy.

 

Medical Insurance:

It is arranged by our partner agency in China
